Sunday Morning Bible Study: 1 Kings 8:43

1 Kings Chapter 8 records Solomon’s prayer of Dedication following the completion of the Temple built to honor God. While the entire prayer is worth studying, one particular verse has lodged itself in my mind this morning; 1 Kings 8:43:

“… then hear from Heaven, your dwelling place, ad do whatever the foreigner asks of You, so that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel …” (NIV)

As I study the Scriptures I am constantly amazed by the consistency in God’s plan for salvation and am awed by the patience The Creator displays in unveiling it. In his prayer,  Solomon, who had been granted a wisdom unlike any who had come before him, echoes God’s promise to Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you. and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed by you” (Genesis 12:3 NIV). With his prayer, Solomon acknowledges God’s plan for salvation and throws his support behind it.

It is clear that God’s plan for salvation is intended to bless all the people of the earth so that they will know who God is and come to revere Him as the Creator of all things. It is a plan that is consummated in the presence of Christ Jesus. Consider Paul’s words in the Book of Ephesians:

Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you, that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 3:2-6)

God’s plan is awe inspiring. It is a plan that is clearly introduced in God’s promise to Abraham, confirmed by wise Solomon’s prayer, and consummated in Christ Jesus who died on the cross so that all men may have access to God the Father. Naysayers who continually search the Scriptures trying to find inconsistencies or error completely miss the big picture of God’s plan for salvation that is consistent throughout the Bible from beginning to end!

Thank you God for revealing Your plan to us! You are an amazing God!

Enjoy your Sunday!
